This little ditty is by Michael Franti and Spearhead, and it's very simple yet very inspiring at the same time. Some people said he 'sold out' when his music started moving in this direction; I say, if music can make the people who listen to it happy, then who cares. :)
Sarah McLachlan has one of those voices that can make you feel enclosed by the feeling in the song she sings. I love the live version of her song "Ice Cream" mainly because FI introduced it to me - and because it is a fun song that makes me think of all the light-hearted moments that are part of being in love with someone. Enjoy! And then go get some ice cream. You know you want it.
Wow, it's that time again! I've been in Washington DC for my birthday weekend (made it through another year, phew) so the blogging has not happened quite as much. But, I intend to make up for it as best I can. This week's song is one I found when Christopher went to Korea two summers ago. He brought back a few Korean pop CDs and I really liked this singer (Baek Ji Young). Two of her most popular songs are in this video - the first is my favorite and the second is Christopher's favorite. There are also some random subtitles in English along the way. Enjoy!
This week, the featured song is one you have probably heard on our website. "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz came out around the time we finalized our Mexico wedding plans, and it felt so beachy and lovey that of course it became part of our wedding soundtrack. I just found a fabulous live video of Mr. Mraz doing this song on tour in Korea - check it out! I love it!
I struggled a little bit coming up with a song this week - I think I was putting too much pressure on finding something 'different.' So I settled for a random video called "I love Spanish Music" - hee hee! Enjoy!
I chose this week's song because I think there is something very sweet about a harmonica and an acoustic guitar. I'm not overly poetic, but here are a few verses so you can get a good picture in your head as to how this song is structured.
If you were a wink, I'd be a nod, If you were a seed, well I'd be a pod. If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug, And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug.
All I want is you, will you be my bride, Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me? Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
When I met Christopher, it became clear pretty quickly that college A Cappella (literally translated: "in the style of chapel") music would be a part of our repertoire whether I liked it or not. Lucky for him - I liked it. I was once part of an A cappella group (freshman year of college --> called "Cool Beans and Gravy" --> oh so embarrassing, but we were awesome and three of our members actually went on to pursue careers as performance professionals) and I sang in the Concert Choir in college as well. So - the background was there, I just needed to be introduced to the specific genre of College A Cappella.
I stumbled across one of my favorite groups on YouTube the other day and wanted to share that experience with my readers. A Cappella music is a phenomenon unto itself (as are it's followers, usually...) and a live experience is the best way to go. But, absent that, video is the next best thing. Hope you enjoy this, even though the holiday season is not quite upon us...
12 Days of Christmas medley - by Straight No Chaser
Hola! New Music Wednesday is upon us again...and this week I'm early. Hah! I recently stumbled across some music from Bollywood (the successful Indian cinema industry, obviously a play on Hollywood) that I just LOVE...and why, you ask? Because it makes me want to shake my butt (and I love Indian music in general). And the videos? They CRACK ME UP. The random hand-waving dance, and the random Victoria's Secret Angels in the back...balle balle, shava shava, freaky freaky Friday night. I love it! Check this out - it will get stuck in your head for hours.
Wednesday is here again, and that means...Song of the Week. This week, I have been particularly inspired by a new CD we bought at Best Buy - music from a man who almost won one of those crazy TV shows (not American Idol) - Cas Haley is his name, and by the way he sings you would never guess he was a baby-faced Caucasian man! Here is a video of him singing a song that is now featured on our wedding website! (I love his little dance in this video)
The past week has been crazy! Very little time for blogging or wedding-related things...well, we did put together much of what is going into our Save the Date packets, so that is 'something' at least. In other news, we are "this" close to choosing a photographer to fly down to Mexico with us, and are just in those last grueling stages of "what ifs" that make it incredibly difficult to choose. Hopefully my next post will be titled "We CHOSE a photographer"...cross your fingers.
Song of the Week! Mexico, by James Taylor. This video cracks me up because of the era in which it was filmed...have a listen/watch.
I realize this is going to sound a little crazy, but I have a thing for the song "Africa" by Toto. I know. It's crazy. But what is even more insane than me LIKING the song is the fact that if you search for it on YouTube, you will find that 10's of 20's of artists have remade, remixed, and recreated the beats of this song. Seriously. So I picked one of the more mixy/trancey/beachy versions that I found. Enjoy!
